Why Do Socks Go Missing?
My 3 year old daughter loves to help me match up the socks when we are folding the laundry. Yesterday she asked “Mom, why are we left we so many socks I can’t match?” I have often thought about this, and really had no answer for her. I know that in the past I have tried many systems to not have socks go missing -
- Only do one persons laundry basket at a time
- Labelled containers in the laundry cupboards where the mix matched socks go in hopes to one day be re united with their mate
- Telling the kids not worry if their socks don’t match, no one sees them anyway….
Of course missing socks is a common problem that many of us face. Some might say the dryer just eats them, or they head off to a black hole somewhere. Logical people will tell you when we get a hole in one sock, we tend to only throw out the one with the hole therefore leaving the mate still mixed in with the laundry or perhaps it’s a plot somehow from retailers just to ensure we always need to purchase socks.
In any case, my answer now to my daughter was “At least we can have arts and crafts time and make some really great sock puppets”
